9/21/2023 0 Comments Ford 302 distributor installationI have moved the dizzy oil pump shaft with an extension to get the dizzy rotor as close as possible to the orig Ford dizzy rotor position. I figured it wouldn't make a difference if nothing is moved. Would this be the reason for the discrepancy? I'm not using tdc on cyl #1 or anything. Will this make a difference? I have not started the car or turned the motor over at all. Install a new gasket and lube the gear with the supplied lube, then install the new distributor with the rotor and advance can pointing in the same direction as. Re-installed orig Ford dizzy and re-installed Pertronix dizzy still rotors off 6.5 degrees from each other. I marked off the orig Ford rotor with string before removing the dizzy, and then marked off the pertronix's rotor with string (See pix) they are within 6.5 degrees of each other. Housing is CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum with an upper support bearing and an extra-long lower bronze bushing for smooth operation and accurate timing at higher. The closest I can get the Pertronix's rotor to point is within 6.5 degrees of the original distributor rotor's position. Installed a new out-of-the-box Pertronix Flame-Thrower plug-and-play distributor with vacuum advance. If you get it off, you will have to do the top dead center firing position thing for 1 cylinder and realign the dist that way. I pulled the orig 1982-84 Ford Distributor out of my 302 today (E2AE). If it doesnt drop in right away, you risk getting the distributor off so the engine wont start, or backfires through the carb or some other unpleasant thing like that.
